AUSTRALIAN CRICKET TOUR
JANUARY 29, 2011 - FEBUARY 12, 2011
Whereas, cricket teaches boys to
be men and men to be gentlemen even in the heat of
competition, is the second largest sport on earth
boasting billions of fans, and
Whereas, the Compton Cricket Club’s Homies & the Pops is
the most famous cricket team in the history of the
United States of America, it is the first American-born
cricket team to travel abroad since 1926 (74 Years) and
has journeyed to England on tour three times between
1997 and 2001, and
Whereas, the historical and unprecedented tour to
Australia by an American team is the first time the two
nations will meet within the cricket oval of play since
the 1880s In the United States, and
Whereas, the team is striving to utilize etiquette of
cricket to improve the quality of citizenship of young
people, as well as to prevent negative youth gang
activity and violence beginning in Compton, Los Angeles,
the USA, Australia and throughout the world.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Board of
Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles hereby
acknowledges the local and international efforts of the
Compton Cricket Club's Homies & the POPz and extends
best wishes to them on their Australian cricket tour.
